In fact, with the right planting, cabbage is far more resistant to disease than you might have estimated.

HOW TO CHOOSE

The first choice is to grow large cabbages. When saving cabbage seeds, of course, the larger the cabbage single plant, the better.

Therefore, it is good to identify which cabbage plant is large to keep that one cabbage for seeds.

The time to choose seed saving is usually when the cabbage is harvested. Therefore, if there is a cabbage plant in the cabbage field, it will affect the normal cultivation of the land next.

TRANSPLANTING

Normally, transplanting of the leftover cabbage is required. The purpose is to ensure the proper use of the land for cabbage cultivation.

When transplanting, the cabbage should not be roughly pulled out of the ground.

Using a tool, follow the cabbage roots for about 5 cm, take out the roots and part of the soil at the roots, preferably without hurting the cabbage rhizome, and then plant the set-aside cabbage inside the set-aside planting plot. Water the roots with sufficient water.

After transplanting, the cabbage needs to be partially trimmed of its leaves to reduce transpiration.

Once the cabbage is established, the cabbage will be alive after a further period of growth.

The entire transplanting and pruning process should be done carefully, as the slightest carelessness may cause the cabbage transplanting to fail.

Therefore, very few cabbages left to grow will be transplanted if the normal agricultural production is not delayed.

WHETHER FERTILIZATION IS NEEDED

Many gardeners do not fertilize their cabbages when they are left to grow. However, proper fertilization is good for the flowering and seeding of cabbage.

When fertilizing, the fertilizer is generally based on phosphorus and potassium, and less nitrogen. Because nitrogen fertilizer is mainly to promote the development of cabbage leaves.

Of course, when fertilizing, some elemental fertilizers can also be used appropriately to adjust the physiological mechanism of cabbage. Improve the pollination success and fruiting rate of cabbage.

Cabbage is not self-pollinated and requires pollinating insects for pollination. Normally, cabbage is not hand-pollinated. Because a single cabbage plant can have thousands of flowers, hand pollination is not cost-effective.

OBTAINING SEEDS

After the cabbage flowers fall off, the cabbage seed pods come out.

At this time, the watering of the cabbage should be properly reduced to promote the maturation of the cabbage seed pods.

When the cabbage seed pods turn from green to yellow, the cabbage seeds are mature.

Note that you should not wait until the cabbage seed pods are fully mature and will explode when you touch them before harvesting, but harvest the cabbage seeds earlier to ensure that you can harvest enough cabbage seeds.

When the cabbage seeds are harvested, the whole cabbage plant is cut to a clean and easy to collect cabbage seeds and exposed to the sun for a few days.

When the water is completely removed from the cabbage seed pods, tap the cabbage seed pods hard to reveal the black or yellow particles inside that are the cabbage seeds.

Collect the cabbage seeds and wait until the right time to sow them, the cabbage seed saving is complete.

TIPS

However, do not save your own cabbage seeds for more than three years. Self-saved seeds do not guarantee that cabbage will not deteriorate. Therefore, after three years, you need to buy good seeds again.
